Get ready for the world of work
Through cooperation agreements, the Hospital offers clinical internships to university students and also students undertaking vocational training cycles. This is the best way to prepare to enter the world of work and to have direct contact with the reality of the healthcare environment.
Clinical internships for university students
The Hospital has had an agreement with the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) since 1971 and houses one of the Faculty of Medicine teaching units within our grounds, where graduate and postgraduate clinical courses in medicine, nursing and biomedicine are taught.
We also have agreements with other universities and external teaching centres to carry out internships for different undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications (University of Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra University, Ramon Llull University, University of Vic, University of the Balearic Islands, University of Navarra). Every year over 800 students gain clinical experience in our Hospital.
Clinical internships for students from vocational schools
The hospital welcomes internships by students on vocational training cycles in the healthcare track from more than 15 higher education centres. Students develop skills relating to the different qualifications and the attitudes required to correctly carry out their work.
Practical training at our centre focuses on getting students ready for the real world, allowing them to implement their theoretical learning from the academic world to healthcare practice.
Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus can accept students from other universities or qualifications for short internships, provided they meet the necessary educational requirements. In all cases, an agreement must be signed giving legal coverage to the internship between the student’s university of origin and the centre.
Applications cannot be made by individual students to the Hospital, they must be submitted by the person in charge of internships from the faculty or university together with the Teaching Department.
The Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) also offers the chance to establish an internship agreement. It enables laboratory research of real pathologies in patients and experimentation on animals with the latest technology and in a spirit of finding solutions to public health problems. This is an exciting world, a step further on the road to entering the workplace and a beneficial experience for a future career. There are many different research groups working in very diverse areas of science. If you are interested in expanding your training at the Institute of Research and you fulfil the requirements, contact your educational centre to begin the necessary administrative procedures.
Doctorate, master’s and diploma students
These students are enrolled in university departments to undertake teaching activities necessary to complete their academic programmes and to do placements in areas of healthcare. These placements are solely for training purposes and do not include any healthcare responsibilities.
The activities they are involved in will be planned, guided, supervised and certified by professionals from the Hospital where the internship takes place, and they must have patient consent to be present or take part in diagnosis and treatment via clinical interview, examination or any type of procedure. The application process must be undertaken by the person in charge of the master’s or diploma together with the Teaching Department and with sufficient notice to agree the conditions and sign the corresponding agreement. Applications from individual students will not be accepted and authorisations from healthcare departments will not be issued.
In the case of the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) the procedure is similar to the degree training placements. You can find all the information here.
