On Wednesday 15 November, Clarivate Analytics published the list of the most cited scientists in 2023. This is one of the most prestigious rankings among the international academic and scientific community that once again this year has the presence of professionals from Vall d'Hebron.

In the category of Neurosciences and Behaviour, Dr. Xavier Montalban, head of the Neurology Service at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, head of the Clinical Neuroimmunology research group at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and director of the Multiple Sclerosis Centre of Catalonia (Cemcat), and Dr. Mar Tintoré, clinical head of the Neurology Service at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, principal investigator at the Clinical Neuroimmunology research group at VHIR and head of healthcare at Cemcat.

In the Clinical Medicine category, Dr. Josep Tabernero, head of the Medical Oncology Service at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and director of the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), and Dr. Enriqueta Felip, head of section of the Medical Oncology Service at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and head of the Thoracic Tumour Group at VHIO, have been recognised.

Clarivate list of most highly cited researchers

Determined by the Clarivate team, the list includes selected researchers who have written multiple highly cited articles that rank in the top 1% of the most cited articles per field and per year in Web of Science over the last decade. This is not the only selection indicator. A preliminary list based on citation activity is then refined through qualitative analysis and expert judgement.

This year's Highly Cited Researcher designations have been awarded to 7,125 individuals. This small fraction of the research population contributes significantly to pushing the frontiers of knowledge and achieving innovative solutions to make the world healthier, more sustainable and safer.
