Speaker: Dr. Robert L Horvath MBBS (USyd) FRACP FRCPA
Robert Horvath is an Australian based infectious diseases physician at The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH) in Brisbane, and a Microbiologist at Pathology Queensland.His career spanned Eastern Australia, including periods in rural or remote regions.In 2015 He co-founded with John Sedgwick the Infective Endocarditis Working Group (IEWG) which evolved into ieQ (infective endocarditis Queensland) in 2018 which amongst other functions, provides a weekly statewide endocarditis MDT service for complex cases (most extensive endocarditis MDT service in Australia). He co-founded ACE (Australasian Collaboration in Endocarditis) during 2022 and is currently the chair. He also is a co-founder of QFIG (Q fever Interest Group), established 2021 and was elected chair during 2026. He was a convenor of the 2019 ieQ national Endocarditis Symposium, and 2024 ACE international Endocarditis Symposium both held at TPCH, and the QFIG Q fever international hybrid weekend symposium held at Byron Bay NSW during June 2025. QFIG also offers MDT advice for complex Q fever cases. During 2025, both ACE and QFIG have expanded internationally, including offering MDT advice for complex patients. Both ACE and QFIG are in the process of developing international registries as well as networking for research into these conditions. Robert is also developing dedicated international websites for both ACE and QFIG to increase international collaborations.
