Vall d’Hebron Data Space

The Vall d’Hebron Data Space is a secure environment that enables the discovery, request, processing and valorisation of data generated within the Vall d’Hebron Campus, fostering research, innovation and the continuous improvement of healthcare.

By ensuring privacy, security and strict regulatory compliance, the Data Space aims to transform data into knowledge, helping advance towards a more efficient, personalised and future-oriented healthcare model. It is also designed to promote collaboration and synergies with other organisations through federated data-sharing models.

Who can use it?

The Vall d’Hebron Data Space can be used by professionals from the Vall d’Hebron Campus, as well as by external stakeholders involved in research, innovation or healthcare improvement projects, including healthcare institutions, research centres, universities, innovative companies and collaborating organisations.

To consume the data available in the Vall d’Hebron environment, it is necessary to have a connector compatible with the Eclipse Dataspace Connector (EDC). Once the connector is installed, access must be requested through the corresponding form and is subject to the established governance processes, ensuring at all times a legitimate purpose, security, privacy and responsible use of the data.

The available datasets are organised according to the following use cases:

Request access

Use Case 1: Health Outcomes and the European Health Data Space

The dataset includes sociodemographic variables such as age, sex and place of birth; clinical and epidemiological variables related to diagnoses, morbidity and comorbidity; clinician-reported outcome measures (CROMs); and patient-reported outcome measures (ePROMs), collected through the El Meu Vall d’Hebron (EMVH) health application.

Use Case 2: Synthetic Data Sharing through AI

The synthetic dataset is based on clinical information from patients with breast cancer and includes data related to diagnoses, treatments, procedures and other care events recorded throughout their clinical journey. It is composed of several interrelated tables that follow the standardised OMOP data model structure, which facilitates interoperability and its use in research studies and healthcare data analysis.

Use Case 3: Data Space for Federated Prediction of Acute Heart Failure Risk.

The dataset focuses on adult patients admitted to hospital through the emergency department for acute heart failure. It includes clinically relevant information for risk analysis, such as demographic variables, clinical characteristics at admission, laboratory measurements and medication recorded at admission.

VHTeDades Project

The Vall d’Hebron Data Space has been made possible thanks to the VHTeDades project, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
