Acte de lliurament d'ajudes a la recerca de La Marató 2025
It will lead two of the selected initiatives and participate in five others, aimed at advancing our understanding of the disease and exploring new treatment strategies.
Today marked the award ceremony for research grants funded by Fundació La Marató de 3Cat through its 2025 edition, dedicated to cancer. A total of 201 projects were submitted to the call and assessed by 169 international experts in the field based on their quality, methodology and relevance. The evaluation process was managed by the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia, part of the Department of Health. Following the recommendation of Fundació La Marató de 3Cat’s Scientific Advisory Committee, its Board of Trustees agreed to allocate €12,436,346 to support 38 research projects involving 91 research teams.
Over the next three years, the 91 award-winning teams will work to develop new prevention and diagnostic tools and more effective treatments to address a disease that continues to have a major social impact. Speaking on behalf of the researchers awarded funding through this edition of La Marató, Dr Cristina Fillat, from Fundació Recerca Clínic-IDIBAPS, said that this investment in research, made possible by “the generosity of the people of Catalonia”, provides “a significant boost at every level of cancer research, from basic research to identify the causes of tumours to research focused on early detection, prevention and the development of innovative therapies”. She added that receiving a grant from La Marató entails “a responsibility and a commitment that drives researchers to work actively to ensure their research makes a difference to patients’ lives”.
The Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) will lead two of the selected initiatives and participate in five others, aimed at advancing our understanding of the disease and exploring new treatment strategies.
