FAQS

A will is a written document in which a person sets out how they wish their assets to be distributed after their death. One part is reserved for compulsory heirs and another is freely distributable. It is usually drawn up before a notary, who provides advice and keeps the document.

  • Open will: signed before a notary; the most common and secure option.
  • Closed will: the testator submits the contents in a sealed envelope to the notary.
  • Holographic will: handwritten by the testator; it requires legal validation after death.

Inheritance is the total set of assets, rights and obligations, divided into compulsory share, improvement and free disposal. A legacy is a specific asset or right left to a person or organisation without affecting the compulsory share.

The law determines the heirs according to the order of kinship. If there are no heirs, the estate passes to the State.

You can leave money, shares, investment funds, life insurance, a percentage of your estate, or assets such as property, vehicles, artworks or jewellery. All assets are professionally managed and allocated according to your wishes.

No. Vall d’Hebron entities are exempt from inheritance and corporate taxes on these contributions. 100% of your legacy goes to the institution.

Yes. You can name a single heir, several co-heirs or leave specific legacies. The compulsory share must always be respected.

Vall d’Hebron guarantees that your contribution will be fully allocated to the specified purpose, managed efficiently and transparently, and in accordance with your wishes.

A will can be modified as many times as you wish. You only need to inform the notary to issue a new version, which will always override previous ones.

The notary is not required to notify this. It is advisable to provide the institution with a simple copy of the will. If there is an executor, they will communicate it; otherwise, the heirs must do so.
