El càncer de còlon i recte és el tumor més freqüent si es consideren conjuntament homes i dones. Com que sovint no provoca símptomes fins a fases avançades, participar en els programes de cribratge és clau per detectar-lo precoçment i millorar les opcions de tractament.
Els principals senyals d'alerta són la presència de sang a la femta, els canvis persistents en el ritme intestinal o el dolor abdominal continuat. Davant d'aquests símptomes, és important consultar un professional. També es recomana mantenir hàbits saludables, tot i que els factors genètics poden influir en el risc de desenvolupar la malaltia.
La cirurgia és el tractament principal del càncer colorectal i, segons cada cas, es pot complementar amb altres teràpies. A l'Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron, els pacients reben una atenció multidisciplinària que inclou tant el tractament com el seguiment posterior.
