En el conjunt de l’Estat s'han dut a terme 1.786 trasplantaments pediàtrics, més de la meitat dels quals (mil trasplantaments) s’han efectuat a Vall d’Hebron.
L’Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron ha registrat 29 donacions pediàtriques entre 2016 i 2025, convertint-se així en l’Hospital de l’Estat que més donacions ha dut a terme en l’última dècada, per davant de l’Hospital Clínic Universitari Virgen de la Arrixaca de Múrcia (amb 27 donacions) i l’Hospital Universitari La Fe de Madrid (24 donacions). Segons l’informe de l’Organització Nacional de Trasplantament (ONT) corresponent al 2025, Vall d’Hebron és també el segon hospital de l’Estat en nombre de trasplantaments pediàtrics realitzats l’any passat, amb un total de 28 trasplantaments -24 per mort encefàlica, dos per donació en asistòlia controlada i dos de donant viu-, per darrere de La Paz, amb un total de 80 trasplantaments, i seguit de l’Hospital Universitari la Fe, a la Comunitat Valenciana, amb un total de 18 trasplantaments. “És un honor formar part de l’hospital líder en donacions pediàtriques de l’Estat en l’última dècada: sense donants no hi ha trasplantaments. Aquesta fita no seria possible sense les famílies, vull traslladar el màxim agraïment a aquelles persones que, en un moment tan dolorós, han donat una segona oportunitat a altres infants i han estat tan altruistes”, exposa el Dr. Albert Sandiumenge, coordinador de Donació i Trasplantaments de l'Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron.
Entre 2016 i 2025 s’han realitzat 477 donacions pediàtriques a l’Estat, de les quals 72 donacions han estat a Catalunya, la comunitat autònoma líder per darrere d’Andalusia (90 donacions) i seguida molt a prop per la Comunitat Valenciana (71 donacions). L’impacte de la donació pediàtrica va més enllà dels receptors infants: els receptors pediàtrics van ser 712, mentre que 613 van ser receptors adults.
De trasplantament pediàtric s’han dut a terme 1.786 trasplantaments pediàtrics en el conjunt de l’Estat, més de 1.000 dels quals s’han efectuat a Vall d’Hebron: 716 trasplantaments han estat de ronyó, 642 de fetge, 286 trasplantaments de cor, 72 bipulmonars, dos pulmonars i 37 d’estómac, fetge, intestí i pàncrees.
Vall d’Hebron combina l’activitat de donació i trasplantament. De fet, dels 41 centres hospitalaris amb activitat trasplantadora pediàtrica a l’Estat, només una no és també hospital donant. A Catalunya, Vall d’Hebron és l’únic hospital que fa tots els tipus de trasplantaments d’òrgan en infants: cardíac, renal, hepàtic, pulmonar i de moll de l'os.
