LAPSIM offers residents comprehensive training in minimally invasive surgical techniques. This multidisciplinary training combines practices with pelvitrainers, virtual laparoscopic simulators and robotic simulators to foster collaboration between specialties and enhance the use of new technologies.

The program is structured in three phases adapted to each year of residency:

  • Phase 1: Practices with pelvitrainers for R1 and R2, supervised by assistants, where basic manual skills are developed.
  • Phase 2: Practices with virtual laparoscopic simulators with exercises adapted to each speciality to delve into advanced surgical techniques.
  • Phase 3: Training in robotic simulators for R4 and R5 residents, where psychomotor skills and robotic surgery techniques are applied.

In addition, specific theoretical training is included for each phase, covering everything from the basics to more advanced procedures in robot-assisted surgery. The program is assessed at each phase to ensure the progressive achievement of competencies.

GINESIM: Training in obstetrics and gynecology

GINESIM offers specialized training in obstetrics and gynaecology with simulation. Divided into modules, it addresses techniques such as caesarean section, hysteroscopy and obstetric ultrasound.

The GINESIM program offers advanced and practical training in key obstetrics and gynaecology techniques, through clinical simulation. Aimed exclusively at residents in the speciality, the program is organized into three modules focused on different areas of expertise:

  • CESARIASIM: Works on the skills necessary to perform caesarean sections, including fetal extraction in various positions, resolving complications and making quick decisions in unforeseen situations.
  • HISTEROSIM: Trains residents in the technique of diagnostic and surgical hysteroscopy. Includes handling of the instrument, resolving complications, and practice with virtual simulators to consolidate skills before practice with real patients.
  • ECOGINSIM: Focused on obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound, teaches how to obtain and interpret fundamental ultrasound plans, with an emphasis on fetal biometry, early diagnosis and transvaginal ultrasounds.

Each module combines online theory with supervised practical sessions and time for independent practice, offering a progressive and effective learning experience.

eTEAMS: Teamwork training in multidisciplinary care

eTEAMS offers residents of Vall d'Hebron complete training in non-technical skills throughout their residency, culminating in the Simulation Instructor qualification. Includes virtual training with the serious game SIMOONS.

The eTEAMS program is a comprehensive training for Vall d'Hebron residents focused on training non-technical skills, such as communication, leadership and situational awareness. Throughout the residency, participants follow a progressive simulation itinerary that culminates in the Simulation Instructor competency.

The program is structured into four modules, one for each year of residency, with the involvement of professionals from various specialties and nursing, who guide the residents in this process. Each module focuses on specific aspects of non-technical skills:

  • eTEAMS I: Focused on situational awareness and communication within the team. You will learn the SBAR information transfer methodology and the importance of effective communication.
  • eTEAMS II: Focused on effective communication with the patient and the team, as well as teamwork. You will practice mutual support techniques and the closed communication model.
  • eTEAMS III: You will work on leadership and decision-making in critical situations, training skills to develop effective leadership.
  • eTEAMS IV: You will consolidate non-technical skills and train as an instructor. Includes training in the SIMOONS virtual reality platform, created in Vall d'Hebron, to improve learning in a simulation environment.

The eTEAMS program trains non-technical skills with virtual sessions to help you develop effectively in real clinical settings.

ENDOVASCULARSIM: Endovascular training

ENDOVASCULARSIM is a program in Angiology and Vascular Surgery that, through simulation, prepares residents to acquire technical and non-technical skills quickly and safely.

The ENDOVASCULARSIM program offers specialized and progressive training in endovascular techniques for residents of Angiology and Vascular Surgery. It combines theory and simulation to ensure practical, safe learning adapted to each stage of the residency.

The program is structured in modules that correspond to the years of residency (R1 to R5) and cover techniques such as:

  • Interventions in iliac and femoral territories (basic, intermediate and advanced).
  • Repair of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms (from beginner to advanced).
  • Interventions in carotid territory and peripheral embolization.

Each module includes:

  • Online theory: Asynchronous sessions to review before practice.
  • Supervised practices: In the Advanced Clinical Simulation Centre, with high-fidelity simulators adjusted to the objectives of each year of training.
  • Free practices: Autonomous time to achieve the learning curve with a minimum of 20 hours throughout the module.

The training culminates in an assessment that integrates theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring that residents develop technical competencies applicable in real clinical situations.

ECOSIM: Ultrasound training

Clinical ultrasound is a fundamental tool in clinical practice, as it provides highly valuable information for patient diagnosis and treatment. A training itinerary in clinical ultrasound, with simulation, facilitates the acquisition of skills and knowledge quickly and safely.

With this program from the Simulation Centre, we offer you a complete experience to master ultrasound and related techniques. The theoretical training is carried out online with capsules recorded by our teachers, and covers essential areas such as:

•   Basic principles of ultrasound
•   Abdominal module
•   Pulmonary module
•   Vascular module
•   Ultrasound protocols

The practical part of the program is carried out in two blocks with small groups. In these sessions, you will work at three stations and start each workshop with a brief review of the theory. Then, you will be able to put into practice what you have learned with ultrasound equipment, the Vimedix 2.0 simulator, and real clinical cases.

You will also have time for free practice with the simulator, to consolidate your knowledge. At the end of the program, you will take a practical exam with the simulator to verify the knowledge acquired.

Upon completion of the program, you will be able to perform an agile and precise ultrasound examination based on the clinical syndrome presented by patients. You will also be able to differentiate ultrasound images without alterations from others with pathology that may involve clinical decisions in the treatment of patients.

The ECOCATHSIM program offers comprehensive training in ultrasound-guided central venous access cannulation, combining theory and practice to ensure effective and safe learning. Overall, this program provides the necessary tools for expert management of this technique.

The course is structured in four phases:

  1. Online theory: Participants review educational videos before the practical sessions to acquire basic knowledge of anatomy, ultrasound and insertion techniques.
  2. Tutored practices: Sessions with experts where ultrasound-guided cannulation is perfected in different locations such as the femoral, jugular and subclavian veins. Arterial techniques and verification with IC-ECG systems are also addressed.
  3. Free practices: Residents have autonomous time to consolidate skills and achieve the learning curve.
  4. Final assessment: Includes a theoretical and practical test to ensure the integration of the knowledge and skills acquired.

ECOCARSIM: Simulation in echocardiography

This program offers specialized training in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography for residents. Through clinical simulation, you will be able to acquire key skills in the safe and effective evaluation and diagnosis of cardiac pathologies.

The ECOCARSIM program allows you to acquire skills in transthoracic (TTE) and transesophageal (TEE) echocardiography quickly and safely.

The program includes two blocks of content, with theoretical training available on video. In the practical sessions, you will work with topics such as the basic principles of echocardiography, ventricular function, valvular diseases and aortic pathology, as well as the assessment of the myocardium and pericardium.

The calls for tutored practices are scheduled throughout the course, with specific sessions and also with opportunities to practice freely during the following three months.

This program is promoted by the Clinical Simulation Group of the Vall d'Hebron Medical Area and offers R1 and R2 practical and theoretical training on the management of acute pathologies. Through clinical simulation, participants acquire essential skills to act in critical situations.

With this simulation course, we prepare you to face the most frequent clinical challenges during your medical and surgical shifts. Through real simulations, you will acquire the necessary skills to manage acute pathologies safely and effectively.

With this program, you will face simulated clinical cases that will allow you to improve both your technical and non-technical skills. You will learn to handle critical situations such as chest pain, dyspnea or shock, and you will be trained in key skills such as the ABCDE approach, monitoring, airway control and oxygen therapy.

In addition, you will work on essential protocols for emergency situations, such as the detection of anaphylaxis and gender-based violence. With this training, you will be prepared to provide immediate response to unstable patients, ensuring initial care until specialized help arrives.

From day one, we provide you with a complete simulation experience that allows you to face clinical reality with confidence.

BRONCOSIM: Basic training in flexible bronchoscopy

BRONCOSIM is a flexible bronchoscopy training program aimed at residents from various specialities. With a practical, simulation-based methodology, participants acquire skills for the safe handling of the bronchoscope and the exploration of the bronchial trees.

The BRONCOSIM program offers specialized training in flexible bronchoscopy. It combines theory and practical simulation to ensure safe and effective learning, adapted to the needs of each speciality.

The sessions are organized in two formats: an intensive one-day modality with 8 hours of training or a modality distributed in 2-hour sessions over 4 days. The program includes theoretical classes followed by practical sessions with simulators, as well as free time so that participants can perfect their technique at their own pace.

The content covers fundamental aspects such as the preparation and operation of the bronchoscope, the anatomy of the upper airway and bronchial trees, and specific techniques such as guided orotracheal intubation and bronchoalveolar lavage. This practical approach allows you to develop key skills such as the safe handling of the bronchoscope and the identification of potential complications.

The training culminates with a final assessment, in which each participant performs a bronchoscopy supervised by an instructor, who reviews the quality of the procedure using the simulator.

BRONCOSIM prepares you to face clinical rotations in the bronchoscopy room as well as critical patient management and the operating room with confidence and solid skills.
