VENTISIM: Basic training in non-invasive mechanical ventilation

The VENTISIM program offers theoretical and practical training in non-invasive mechanical ventilation (NIVM) for residents from various specialities. Through clinical simulation and real cases, participants acquire skills for the safe management of NIV in different settings.

The VENTISIM program is designed to offer comprehensive training in non-invasive mechanical ventilation (NIVM) to Vall d'Hebron residents. The program includes two modules: VENTISIM Transversal, aimed at R1 and R2 of various specialities to establish the foundations of NIV, and VENTISIM Advanced, focused on R3 and R4 of Pulmonology to delve deeper into home and advanced NIV.

The course combines online theory and practical sessions at the Advanced Clinical Simulation Centre. You will complete three practical workshops of two hours each, and an integrative final scenario with an exam to evaluate the knowledge acquired.

The content includes ventilator management, interfaces, monitoring of leaks and asynchronies, and the NIV withdrawal process (weaning). In addition, the advanced module covers the use of NIV in patients with chronic or neuromuscular pathologies and home invasive ventilation with equipment such as the Lumis and Stellar.

Through this training, you will acquire essential skills to manage NIV in hospital and home settings, with the aim of applying the fundamentals of mechanical ventilation safely and effectively in each clinical situation.
