The BCN PID Foundation is supporting the Vall d’Hebron project “I Have a PID. I’m an Adult and I’m Not Alone” with €45,000. The initiative provides comprehensive psychosocial support to adults with Primary Immunodeficiencies (PID) and ensures continuity for patients transitioning from the pediatric program.

The aim of the new donation is to secure the continuity of the psychosocial care project for adults with PID, “I Have a PID. I’m an Adult and I’m Not Alone”, which offers comprehensive emotional and social support, emphasizing the patient’s context and including family members and caregivers as part of the care process.

"The project is essential to ensure that people with PID receive continuous support throughout adulthood, without losing connection with their environments and caregivers," says Dr. Pere Soler, coordinator of the Transversal Committee on Primary Immunodeficiencies at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital and head of the Infection and Immunity in the Pediatric Patient group at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR).

The project provides national and international coverage thanks to the development of telematic services, making it accessible to patients living far from referral hospitals. Currently, the participating centers include Vall d’Hebron University Hospital and other hospitals in Catalonia and the Valencian Community.

According to Carlota Villar, Vice President of the BCN PID Foundation, “With this new contribution, we reinforce our commitment to the health and well-being of people with PID, consolidating a model of care centered on the person and their environment, not just on the disease”.

The project is mainly funded through the collaboration of Grifols, with additional support from the BCN PID Foundation. At the same time, there is a pediatric project, “I Have a PID. I’m Not Alone”, aimed at children and adolescents with PID. The coexistence of both projects allows for a natural and coordinated transition of patients into adulthood, ensuring integrated and continuous care throughout all stages of life.

"Coordination between the pediatric and adult projects ensures that patients never lose continuity of care, providing personalized support adapted to each stage of life," adds Sonia Rodríguez, psychologist and researcher in the Infection and Immunity in the Pediatric Patient group at VHIR.

With this initiative, the BCN PID Foundation strengthens its track record as an organization committed to rare diseases and to innovative, pioneering, and essential projects in the health sector.
