Dr. Andrew Gennery. Clinical Reader in Paediatric Immunology and Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation - Honorary Consultant Paediatric Immunologist, Great North Children's Hospital - Institute of Cellular Medicine, Newcastle University

"Stem cell transplantation in recently described PID"

Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an established curative treatment for many primary immunodeficiencies. Advances in donor selection, graft manipulation, conditioning and treatment of complications, mean that survival for many conditions is now around 90%. Next generation sequencing is identifying new immunodeficiencies, many of which are treatable with HSCT. Challenges remain however with short and long-term sequalae. This lecture will review latest developments in HSCT for conventional primary immunodeficiencies and present data on outcome for emerging diseases.

Dr Gennery has worked in the field of primary immunodeficiencies for 20 years and held his current research and clinical position for 15 years. He has published extensively on molecular defects of primary immunodeficiencies, outcome of transplantation and quality of life for different genetic defects, from a centre, national, European and Trans-Atlantic perspective. He is currently chair of ESID Clinical Working Party and chair of ERN-RITA Guidelines working party
