The recognition awards the Health Care Research Unit the prestigious RNAO and acknowledges the Hospital’s contribution and commitment to implementing the Best Practice Guidelines.
This is the fourth time Vall d’Hebron University Hospital has received this international recognition, which is awarded every two years by the Healthcare Research Unit (Investeen-Carlos III Health Institute), the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) and the Spanish Centre for Evidence-Based Healthcare (CECBE) through the Best Practices Spotlight Organizations (BPSO) programme.
This accreditation recognises the quality of patient healthcare and the Hospital’s commitment to implementing and assessing the RNAO Best Practice Guidelines. The Hospital is accredited as a centre committed to healthcare excellence in fall prevention, ostomy management, diabetic foot ulcer assessment and management, breastfeeding and pain assessment and management.
Montserrat Martínez, consultant with the Nursing Department and head of implementing the Best Practices Spotlight Organizations programme in the Hospital, states that “in these seven years of experience, participation in this accreditation programme as a Centre Committed to Healthcare Excellence (CCEE®) has provided many benefits. Especially for patients, families and professionals, who work with the motivation provided by this high-impact international recognition. This is why we consider it essential to continue promoting knowledge, fostering, facilitating and providing support for the implementation and assessment of the BPSO-RNAO Best Practices Guidelines, which are the result of research and the best published scientific evidence”.
According to Montserrat Martínez “by implementing the best practices guidelines we have shown great progress and improvements in healthcare outcomes. It goes without saying we must continue to progress, integrate evidence in healthcare practice, promote research and assess the results”.
The first accreditation as a Centre Committed to Healthcare Excellence, through the BPSO programme, was awarded to the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in 2015. Since then, the accreditation has been renewed every two years in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
The RNAO BPSO programme started in 1999 with the aim of providing international publicity for the guidelines drawn up by the association in various fields of hospital care, such as promoting health, fall prevention in the elderly, breastfeeding and giving up smoking.
